Romania – The country where nothing matters

This is how Martha Bibescu spoke about her native country, "the land where nothing matters". The past few days was Romania's national day. What do I think about the state in general?, about nation states, I explained in other articles. Nationalism is such a bizarre form of tribalism, because it refers to membership in such artificial groups, created on political criteria. To be a nationalist is to have an attachment to wars, the political games of the past, which often brought serious trouble to your ancestors. But tribalism is in our genes, that's why people don't hesitate to turn to this newly appeared form either.

In terms of the existence of national states in their current form, the universal declaration of human rights seems to me a monument of cynicism. It is not enough from a biological point of view, human destiny is mostly decided before birth. But also from a social and material point of view, a man's destiny is decided then and there. Most parameters that define well-being, starting from life expectancy, chances in life on all levels, it mostly depends on where you were born. The right to live in democracy, economic prosperity comes from birth in most cases, not from personal merits. The other right? What can be done?

Beyond a globalization of opportunity for all people, of true economic globalization and essential cultural values, maybe some civil rights, such as the right to vote, should be earned. It's about the fact that people with poor intelligence and culture, manipulatable, I can vote, creating disasters that affect others. That's what happened in Germany in 1933, which influenced the destiny of all of Europe for decades, then in Romania in 1990, but also on other occasions. Perhaps the right to vote should depend on an exam that tests not only political knowledge, but also the responsibility of the potential voter. In democracy we have every right, but not that of harming other people. Again, science is too little present in the social sciences, POLICY, no long-winded reasoning is done. Likewise, in the case of immigrants who want to live in economic prosperity, this right should also be earned. In Great Britain, but not only, live immigrants who have no attachment to the values of the Euro-Atlantic culture. Beyond the knowledge of history, language, I think the interest and appreciation of these people for what is essential in this part of the world should be tested: democratically, human rights (the value of man in general). In such conditions, discussions of Sharia in the UK would no longer exist.

On the other hand, we cannot deny belonging to a certain language, values created in this language, on a certain territory. But unfortunately, in Romania, everything created by our neighbors, by the people who speak this language, they were born on this territory, it doesn't matter, on the contrary, it is sabotaged in the first place. I recently saw an article criticizing Herta Muller, the faces would not have deserved the Nobel prize. Not only is her merits challenged by the security guards who shamelessly declare that she was not persecuted, but also by opinion leaders like Cristian Tudor Popescu. Those who claim this have read anything she wrote? They read from other authors on the Nobel list? They made a comparison? I'm not good at fiction, but I read from Herta Muller. Although I find the style extremely depressing, I realize that it is a complex literature, which abounds in highly suggestive metaphors and literary devices of all kinds. You can see the quality, as seen in many things, even if some of these do not appeal to us.

I expected that on the day the awarding of the Nobel Prize for literature to a person related to Romanian culture was announced, to see an interview with Herta Muller or at least with those who wrote about her on all the TV stations. Random, a childhood neighbor of mine, wrote such a book, at the launch of which, although the author is an academic, so he has students, no one came (according to his mother's statements)! But nobody asked Cosmin about Herta Muller. Someone from our culture, who lived and wrote about shared experiences in a hallucinatory political system, received the Nobel Prize! what matters!!!!

It's not about patriotism, it is about the right of every human being, from any culture, to recognize his merits, from to is manifested culturally, to have chances, be it from Romania, Peru or Zimbabwe. I would have liked to avoid using state names…
