How many times I brag that I have a doctorate in human stupidity, that we have learned enough of the misery of the world in which we live, about how all the values on which Western civilization is based have fallen, this is how nature punishes me by showing me how ignorant I really am. I often feel like writing to my rational friends on the net, who keep competing to bring evidence of the lack of logic and culture displayed by religious people, the clergy, but also the politicians who in a secular state (allegedly) I play them. The world is much worse than that, corruption and stupidity are much deeper, and everything that happens in the world of religion is just a symptom, a problem related to human nature and our society, not to mention the fundamentalist ones.
The electoral campaign in the United States shows us that it is stupid, lack of culture, corruption, the abdication of western values is much harder than we think. After Obama proposed the coverage of contraception through medical insurance, all kinds of controversies broke out, each one more unsalted and more shocking. Obama's idea, a politician whom I consider decent, although my visions are often very different from his, it is in line with that of medical insurance in general. The problem is if you agree with this type of insurance. I will not go into details like this. But you can't say that if you make insurance with high coverage, you must exclude contraception. The idea advanced (by whom??) that this measure would contravene freedom of religion. Well, blood transfusions can also contravene the freedom of religion of the employer. There may be religions that do not agree with anything related to health care. Why not? What is not clearly said is that human sex is pleasurable, not for reproduction. That's human nature. Sex is healthy for health, therefore also for women's health. Then contraceptives have beneficial effects for health in many cases. In addition, contraceptives can have effects of preserving ovarian function over time, which leads to the prevention of many diseases that appear after this function ceases. And, hormonal contraceptives must be included in the insurance. In rest, other contraceptives, which are also protective against sexually transmitted infections are clearly healthy. Abortion in good conditions is beneficial for health, we in Romania know very well why. I don't see where the problems are, who can say anything else about this subject if he is not a republican. I wonder how even a Republican can go so far as to say something. But that's human nature, always surprising.
But this situation is one that reflects our society, the place where he arrived. This is in politics, but it is not different in science either. In politics, we have to satisfy the electorate with mediocre IQ and the culture made on TV and in the pub. In science, we have to satisfy some teachers who are frustrated and unsure of themselves, to cover ourselves with papers that contain nothing. And in other fields it is the same.
